ST Engineering partners with polytechnics for AI training

ST Engineering has announced new partnerships with Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic to enhance cybersecurity education through Generative AI training.

The collaboration aims to equip over 600 students from the School of Infocomm at Republic Polytechnic and the School of Computing at Singapore Polytechnic with skills to handle evolving cybersecurity challenges. These students will receive industry-relevant training, access to cybersecurity solutions, and opportunities for mentorship and internships.

Generative AI is increasingly significant in cybersecurity, offering new ways for Security Operations Centre analysts to predict, detect, and respond to cyber threats. As cyber attackers utilise AI to enhance their techniques, proficiency in GenAI becomes essential for recognising threat patterns and enhancing operational efficiency.

Goh Eng Choon, President of Cyber at ST Engineering, commented on the significance of this initiative. "GenAI for cybersecurity is an emerging field that has much growth potential. Through our partnerships with Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic, we are cultivating the next generation of cybersecurity talents, equipping them with critical skills that will prepare them for the demands of the industry and bridge the cybersecurity talent gap," he said. "

The new partnerships add to our existing educational collaborations, reflecting our ongoing commitment to advance cybersecurity education and build critical competencies that strengthen Singapore's cybersecurity readiness."

Wong Wai Ling, Director of the School of Infocomm at Republic Polytechnic, highlighted the importance of such collaborations in keeping students competitive in the global market. "Against the backdrop of a global demand for cybersecurity professionals, such collaborations are crucial in giving our students a competitive edge as cybersecurity practitioners. This partnership with ST Engineering will further propel our goal to advance education and training in the field of cybersecurity, as we shape the next generation of cybersecurity leaders," she stated.

Liew Chin Chuan, Deputy Senior Director of the Computing, Chemical & Life Sciences Cluster at Singapore Polytechnic, also expressed commitment to enhancing student education. "SP is committed to providing our students with the most relevant education to prepare them for the challenges of the modern workforce. Our collaboration with ST Engineering enables us to integrate their innovative solutions into our curriculum, offering students valuable hands-on experience in Generative AI and cybersecurity. This collaboration aligns with our long-standing tradition of industry partnerships, allowing us to refine our pedagogy and stay at the forefront of educational innovation," he remarked.

ST Engineering will be actively involved in developing curricula tailored to the needs of both polytechnics. Students and staff will gain access to ST Engineering's proprietary solutions, including Cyber Co-Pilot, an AI tool for supporting SOC analysts and incident response teams, which will be incorporated into the institutions' curricula.

Internships and short-term work placements at ST Engineering will provide students with real-world experiences, preparing them for future careers in cybersecurity.

Additionally, ST Engineering and Republic Polytechnic will establish a GenAI for Cybersecurity Innovation Centre to facilitate hands-on learning through scenario-based training and project development opportunities to enhance students' skills in AI-driven cybersecurity approaches.

Since 2021, ST Engineering has been involved in educational collaborations across Singapore, with efforts to train students at various institutions, including Temasek Polytechnic and ITE College Central, thus contributing to building a competent cybersecurity workforce in the region.
