Canon Singapore has announced a partnership with Temasek Polytechnic to advance the professional development of security personnel in Singapore through the establishment of a new Security Technology Experience Centre (STEC).

Canon Singapore and Temasek Polytechnic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to solidify this collaboration. The signing, witnessed by Minister of State Ms. Sun Xueling, was part of the proceedings at the Security Industry Conference 2024. The STEC will be located at the Temasek Polytechnic campus.

The new centre, expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2025, will act as an immersive and experiential learning hub for security technology training. It aims to prepare both current and upcoming security professionals for the ongoing challenges and opportunities within the industry.

The partnership is set against the backdrop of a flourishing security services market in the Asia Pacific, with a projected compound annual growth rate of 6.2% from 2023 to 2030. It underscores the importance of equipping security personnel with the tools and knowledge to adapt to this rapidly growing sector.

"This strategic partnership with Temasek Polytechnic aligns perfectly with Canon's vision of creating a smarter, safer future for communities and businesses with the power of Smart Surveillance," stated Mr. Norihiro Katagiri, Senior Vice President, Canon Singapore. He added, "By collaborating with a leading institution like Temasek Polytechnic, we aim to address the skill gaps in the fast-evolving security industry while contributing to the development of a highly skilled workforce capable of leveraging advanced technologies to create safer and more secure environments."

The STEC aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and adoption of security innovations, welcoming local and international visitors. Through industry-academia collaboration, the STEC will work with experts, academics, and government bodies to shape the security landscape in Singapore and globally.

The partnership will also include the creation of specialised training programmes focused on mid-career security personnel, aligning with Temasek Polytechnic's Continuing Education and Training (CET) initiatives. Such efforts aim to respond to the industry's evolving demands and the consistent need for skilled security professionals in Singapore.

"This partnership marks a significant step forward in advancing specialised security technology programmes," said Mr. Aw Tuan Kee, Deputy Principal of Temasek Polytechnic. "By upskilling our security workforce and supporting career transitions, we are not only strengthening individual capabilities but also addressing the dynamic needs of an evolving industry. With the launch of the new Security Technology Experience Centre located at Temasek Polytechnic in 2025, we look forward to sharing knowledge and promoting innovative security solutions to both local and international communities and businesses."

Canon Singapore, along with its affiliate companies like Axis Communications, BriefCam, and Milestone Systems, will spearhead the establishment of the STEC. The consortium will provide a comprehensive suite of security and surveillance solutions, including advanced cameras and intelligent video content analytics software.

By integrating expertise from each contributing company, the collaboration seeks to create a world-class learning environment at the STEC, benefiting industry personnel, those changing careers, and Temasek Polytechnic students by equipping them with practical skills in modern security technologies.

The MOU between Canon Singapore and Temasek Polytechnic reflects their commitment to progress in security technology and workforce training, setting a foundation for ongoing developments and future collaborations within the security industry.
