Zimbra & ServerToday deploy 16,500 secure mailboxes in Thailand
A partnership between Zimbra and ServerToday has resulted in the deployment of over 16,500 secure mailboxes across key government agencies in Thailand to support the country's cybersecurity and digital sovereignty agenda.
Deployment across agencies
The mailboxes are installed at several Thai ministries and agencies, with key deployments including 4,500 mailboxes at the State Audit Office, 2,000 encrypted mailboxes at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and 10,000 mailboxes at the Provincial Waterworks Authority of Thailand. These measures are intended to secure communications and protect sensitive government data.
The partnership between Thai IT firm ServerToday and global email platform provider Zimbra has been ongoing since 2007. Over time, the collaboration has grown from an initial single deployment to cover multiple institutions, consistently contributing to Thailand's digital resilience. By offering a secure email infrastructure, the partnership seeks to ensure that data remains within Thai jurisdiction and under national control.
Service and technology
ServerToday provides managed services within Thailand, covering cloud infrastructure, security, backup, and round-the-clock technical support. Zimbra contributes its suite of security and user management products, which include encryption, two-factor authentication, and collaborative capabilities that fulfil government operational standards.
Thailand has shown improvement in the field of cybersecurity, as evidenced by its placement in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index. Despite these advances, a recent industry report shows that only 7% of Thai organisations have reached what is classified as a "mature" level of cybersecurity readiness, suggesting ongoing challenges in ensuring operational resilience. The majority are in the process of developing the necessary systems and capabilities to meet modern security threats.
Beyond the public sector
Looking forward, ServerToday and Zimbra plan to diversify the deployment of their secure systems to other sectors that handle sensitive data, such as healthcare, education, and financial services. This reflects a broader trend of extending national data security efforts across essential service providers beyond state institutions.
The collaboration demonstrates how the combination of local service expertise and international technology providers can help establish robust cybersecurity frameworks in support of a nation's digital security efforts. The deployment to date marks a significant milestone in Thailand's ongoing digital transformation and resilience-building measures.
