Trend Micro excels in MITRE Engenuity ATT&CK Evaluations
Trend Micro has recently announced its strong performance in the latest MITRE Engenuity ATT&CK Evaluations report for managed services, exhibiting robust threat detection and a high actionability rating. The report highlighted Trend's ability to detect 15 out of 15 major attack steps with 100% visibility, and 86% of these steps were analysed in an actionable manner.
Mick McCluney, Field CTO, ANZ at Trend, commented on the evaluation process and the outcomes. "Not all services are created equal," McCluney stated. "MITRE set us up against multiple attack scenarios in the style of real-world adversary groups, and our attack visibility earned a perfect score across all major steps. The message is simple: Trends MDR reduces the burden and time to identify, investigate, and respond to threats."
The evaluation closely replicated advanced real-world attacks, focusing on the tactics, techniques, and procedures employed by state-aligned group menuPass (aka APT10) and the ransomware-as-a-service collective BlackCat/AlphV. Conducted in early 2024, this year's evaluation demonstrated the capability of Trend's MDR (Managed Detection and Response) service in handling complex and sophisticated attacks.
Trend Micro's MDR capabilities are part of its Trend Vision One platform. This service is relied upon by over 3,000 customers globally for critical security operations work. According to the company, the service helps minimise the number of alerts flagged to users, significantly reducing analyst fatigue and preventing human error that could affect detection or response.
Trend Micro highlighted several features of its MDR service, emphasising the native telemetry, AI-powered alert explanations, and world-leading threat intelligence. With these components, the service aims to provide high fidelity detections, strong correlations, and enriched context for quicker and more effective threat resolution. These capabilities are bolstered by Trend Micro's global threat research and the Trend Micro Zero-Day Initiative (ZDI).
McCluney underscored the significance of these developments, stating, "Enterprises worldwide are realising the value of MDR. More than 3,000 customers rely on Trend as an expert for critical security operations work." The company's success in MITRE Engenuity's ATT&CK Evaluations since 2020, consistently achieving a 100% detection rate, further proves its effectiveness.
Trend Micro's Trend Vision One platform stands out as a comprehensive solution designed to enable rapid detection and containment of threats, preventing widespread impact. This platform offers continuous monitoring and analysis, providing customers with stronger detection capabilities and faster response times.
The evaluation by MITRE Engenuity is highly regarded in the cybersecurity industry, as it assesses the effectiveness of security solutions against known adversary behaviours, which closely mirror actual attacks. This year's focus on menuPass and BlackCat/AlphV provided a stringent test for Trend Micro's MDR service, demonstrating its capacity to address sophisticated threat scenarios.
Trend Micro's ongoing achievements in these evaluations confirm the company's commitment to advancing its cybersecurity services and maintaining high standards in threat detection and response. By continually refining its threat defence techniques and employing advanced technologies, the company aims to provide robust protection for its global customer base.
