Tenable named leader in 2025 Gartner quadrant for exposure platforms

Fri, 14th Nov 2025

Tenable has been positioned as a Leader in the inaugural 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Exposure Assessment Platforms. The cybersecurity firm received the highest rating for its Ability to Execute and was placed furthest for Completeness of Vision in the assessment.

Market recognition

The company's recent leadership titles extend beyond Gartner, following similar recognition in both the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Exposure Management 2025 Vendor Assessment and The Forrester Wave: Unified Vulnerability Management Q3 2025. Tenable is known for its customer base in sectors including banking, financial services, and insurance in the UK and globally, serving more than 44,000 organisations.

Expanding risk management

Tenable's capabilities, initially focused on traditional IT vulnerability detection, now encompass a broader attack surface. Its Tenable One Exposure Management Platform provides risk visibility across IT, cloud, artificial intelligence, identity, third-party systems, web applications, and operational technology (OT). This platform aims to address evolving security threats by enabling users to identify gaps across complex environments.

"To us, being named a Leader in the very first Gartner Magic Quadrant for Exposure Assessment Platforms is a huge stamp of approval for the approach we've taken to identify attack surface changes and proactively provide our customers with ways to monitor and close exposures in their environments," said Mark Thurmond, Co-CEO, Tenable.

Proactive approach

Risk-based analytics and an integration ecosystem of more than 300 partners are core to the company's offering. Tenable positions itself as helping organisations prioritise their cybersecurity measures, shifting away from responding to incidents to preemptive risk management. The strategy leverages contextual insight and advanced risk prioritisation to focus resources on major exposures before they can be targeted by attackers.

The wider industry is moving towards what Gartner describes as Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM). The research defines exposure assessment platforms as the foundational technology to support this approach. Tenable states its early adoption of such strategies has contributed to its position in the evolving market from vulnerability management to exposure management.

"With the weaponisation of AI, detection and response is no longer adequate. Today's modern enterprise requires a preemptive approach and a single, holistic view of the attack surface. That's what exposure management is all about and Tenable One is the only platform that delivers it," said Thurmond.
