Tenable launches OT/IoT exposure management platform
Mon, 4th Mar 2024

Tenable, the exposure management company, has launched the Tenable One for OT/IoT, an exposure management platform providing inclusive visibility across Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) assets. This unique platform offers security leaders a thorough understanding of exposure across their complete attack surface.

Nowadays, the integration of IT and physical assets ranging from data centre HVAC systems to office building badge readers, have broadened the cyber attack surface. Often originating in IT systems and spreading into OT environments, cyber attacks can bear potentially disastrous consequences. Tenable One for OT/IoT expands visibility beyond IT to also include OT and IoT sectors, enabling organisations to prioritise security risks irrespective of where they exist—be it in the cloud, data centre or the OT environment. They can understand how these risks pave the way for attack paths across their infrastructure.

A unique feature of this platform is that users can compare their global exposure, including OT assets, to other companies within their respective industries. They can utilise these insights to make better and faster decisions. Tenable One platform now merges the broadest vulnerability coverage across IT assets, cloud resources, web apps, identity systems, OT and IoT assets.

Amir Hirsh, SVP and general manager of OT Security at Tenable, stated, “On a daily basis we witness threat actors finding creative ways to disrupt businesses through non-traditional paths. Risk doesn’t end at IT.” He added, “For those that rely on physical computing technology, OT and IoT often power their most business-critical activities. Any disruption is extremely damaging and often results in an inability to function… We understand that OT environments require a different approach from IT and we've designed our security solution so teams no longer have to choose between cybersecurity or productivity. They can have both.”

The risk posed to OT systems by nation-state cyber-attacks was recently highlighted during a U.S. Congressional hearing. In the hearing, senior representatives from the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), the Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) and the National Security Agency (NSA) testified that critical U.S. Services such as water utilities, military organisations, electricity systems etc., are actively being targeted by Chinese hacking campaigns.

The licence for Tenable One for OT/IoT also includes Tenable Security Centre and Tenable OT Security. Tenable is planning a webinar titled 'The Invisible Bridge: How to Effectively Discover, Measure, and Minimise the Risk Posed by Your Interconnected IT/OT/IoT Environments', set to take place on March 26th.
