TELUS unveils AI-driven email protection with 99.7% catch rate

Thu, 2nd Oct 2025

TELUS has launched an API-based email protection service that reports a 99.7% phishing catch rate and comprehensive defence for email and collaboration platforms.

The solution, TELUS Email Protection Service Advanced, is powered by Check Point's Harmony Email & Collaboration technology and is now available to TELUS customers. According to TELUS, the service offers a significant advancement beyond traditional email security solutions by preventing threats from reaching users' inboxes, instead of scanning emails after delivery.

Email threat landscape

Email continues to be a common vector for cyberattacks against organisations. TELUS states that its new offering addresses these concerns with comprehensive coverage including major cloud-based productivity and collaboration tools.

Carey Frey, Chief Security Officer at TELUS, highlighted the evolving nature of cyber threats and the role of the company's partnership with Check Point. Frey said:

"With cyber threats evolving daily, our partnership with Check Point delivers one of the industry's most advanced email protection, giving our customers the confidence to operate securely in an increasingly digital world. We're not just helping customers to keep pace with threats, we're enabling them to stay steps ahead."

The email protection service is described by TELUS as a cloud-native platform that integrates with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace and extends security to collaboration environments such as Teams, SharePoint, Slack, and Dropbox.

Technology and approach

TELUS reports that unlike conventional defences, which typically examine emails after they reach the inbox, their new solution uses patented low-latency technology to scan and block malicious content before it can be accessed by the user. The platform aims to provide real-time scanning, support for regulatory compliance, and advanced phishing detection, including protection against newly emerging, zero-day threats.

Explaining the rationale behind the focus on AI-driven security, David Meister, Global Head of MSP, Harmony Email Security at Check Point, said:

"Email remains one of the easiest ways for cybercriminals to break into corporate networks and steal sensitive data. As attackers turn to AI to power more sophisticated phishing campaigns, organizations must fight back with AI-driven defenses that stop threats before they ever reach the inbox."

Key benefits

The TELUS Email Protection Service Advanced promises a range of advantages, including real-time scanning across both email and collaboration applications, zero-day and advanced phishing protection, regulatory compliance support, seamless integration with existing security infrastructure, enhanced analytics with integrated reporting, and 24/7 monitoring and response provided by TELUS cybersecurity experts.

TELUS claims the service can be quickly and simply activated, immediately providing detection and protection capabilities. Integrated reporting gives organisations a unified view of their cybersecurity posture by combining email security data with information from other TELUS security services.

This approach aims to ensure that any threat, regardless of origin or delivery method, can be detected and addressed without delay. The extended protection for collaboration platforms reflects a response to changing work environments, where corporate data is increasingly stored and shared outside traditional email systems.

Industry context

As enterprises continue their transition to cloud-based productivity and collaboration environments, reliance on secure communication tools is growing. TELUS's move to integrate its email security offering directly with platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, as well as a variety of collaboration solutions, is positioned as an attempt to address new and evolving risks facing organisations today.

The service aims to address not only cybersecurity risks but also regulatory compliance needs by preventing data loss and improving visibility through comprehensive analytics and integrated security data. Monitoring is provided by a team of experts available around the clock, supporting incident detection and response functions for customer organisations.
