Tanium appoints Rani Johnson, Tim Millikin to board of directors

Fri, 31st May 2024

Converged Endpoint Management (XEM) vendor Tanium has announced the appointment of two new members to its board of directors. Rani Johnson, Workday's Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Tim Millikin, a partner at TPG, will join the company as it seeks to accelerate its growth and redefine how IT operations and security teams collaborate.

The inclusion of Johnson and Millikin is expected to bring significant strategic expertise to Tanium. Johnson, who brings over 25 years of experience in IT and cybersecurity, has held leadership roles at prominent organisations such as Cloud Software Group, TIBCO, SolarWinds, Lower Colorado River Authority, Austin Energy, Ventyx, and NASA. As the current CIO of Workday, she is responsible for the company’s global IT function. Additionally, Johnson's perspective as a Tanium customer will offer unique insights on the board, representing the voice of the customer.

Millikin, with more than 15 years at the global alternative asset management firm TPG, co-leads the company’s investment activities in software and enterprise technology. He has played a pivotal role in the firm’s investment of over USD $3 billion in equity within the cybersecurity space, including TPG's investment in Tanium. Millikin's experience extends to serving on the boards of several high-profile TPG investments such as McAfee, Everfox, Ellucian, and Elite Technologies. His market insight and industry expertise are expected to significantly contribute to Tanium’s strategic planning and growth objectives.

Dan Streetman, CEO of Tanium, spoke highly of the new board members. "The Tanium Board plays a vital role in the development of the company’s strategy, innovations, and overall success," he said. "The breadth and depth of Rani and Tim’s expertise and experience in a rapidly evolving industry will be important enablers as we continue Tanium’s accelerated growth."

Tanium’s platform offers a unique XEM solution, providing real-time control and visibility to unite IT operations and security teams. With strategic partnerships with industry giants such as Microsoft and ServiceNow, the company has an Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) exceeding USD $700 million. Tanium’s client roster includes more than 40% of the Fortune 100, which underscores its role as a leader in endpoint management and security.

By gaining unparalleled visibility and control, Tanium’s platform allows organisations to consolidate point solutions into a single integrated platform, thereby reducing complexity and risk. The addition of Johnson and Millikin to the board is seen as a strategic move aimed at fostering innovation and ensuring sustained growth and market leadership.

Johnson and Millikin will join an impressive list of current Tanium board members, which includes founders David Hindawi and Orion Hindawi, Mark Fields, former CEO of Ford Motor Company, David Rowland, former executive chairman of Accenture, Jim Whitehurst, former President of IBM, Maggie Wilderotter, former CEO of Frontier Communications, and Scott Kupor, a partner at Andreessen Horowitz.
