SailPoint unveils AI suite to boost identity security ops

Yesterday

SailPoint has announced the introduction of SailPoint Harbor Pilot, a suite of AI agents designed to enhance the efficiency of identity security operations.

SailPoint Harbor Pilot has been developed to automate various identity security tasks, streamline workflow creation, and deliver AI-driven insights through conversational prompts, reducing the administrative workload on identity teams and bolstering security postures.

Matt Mills, President of SailPoint, commented, "The traditional approach to identity governance – relying on static policies and manual oversight – can't keep up with today's enterprise complexity. To keep pace with the rapidly evolving digital landscape, organisations need a modern, AI-driven solution that can swiftly adapt and scale to handle a growing range of identity types and the fast pace of digital change. Our goal is to empower security teams to move from a reactive stance to one that is proactive and predictive."

SailPoint also disclosed plans to extend its identity security capabilities to manage AI agents. This development addresses a pertinent challenge enterprises face in properly governing AI agents as emerging forms of digital identity. The company's forthcoming Agent Identity Security capabilities are expected to assist organisations in managing the lifecycle of AI agents with automated identity governance and enforcing access certifications to mitigate unauthorised access and security risks.

A recent survey conducted by SailPoint indicated that 82% of respondents currently employ AI agents within their organisations, highlighting the critical need for secure management of these entities.

Harbor Pilot's new AI-powered capabilities are designed to assist security teams in navigating an increasingly complex threat landscape characterised by a shortage of skilled professionals and a proliferation of identity types. The toolset streamlines processes by enabling professionals to retrieve real-time identity insights through conversational prompts, bypassing the need for complex queries or manual searches.

The Harbor Pilot Documentation Q&A feature aims to reduce the time and effort spent searching for technical documentation by providing rapid, AI-driven responses with source links. Meanwhile, the Harbor Pilot Workflows Generator utilises conversational prompts to help teams design efficient security workflows, potentially reducing errors and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Gartner's analysis highlights the anticipated rise of AI with agency, projecting that by 2028, a third of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI, which is expected to manage 15% of day-to-day work decisions autonomously. This predicted growth underscores the importance of safeguarding AI agents to maintain the same security and compliance standards as human and machine identities.

SailPoint's approach includes SailPoint Atlas, which provides a unified interface for managing human, machine, and AI identities. Through AI-driven automation, this offers enhanced visibility, improved compliance, and reduced risks, keeping enterprises proactive in managing emerging risks while securing growth.

Since 2017, the company has built upon its AI integration, with advancements such as Application Onboarding and GenAI-powered entitlement descriptions. These advancements aim to automate identity security tasks further and enhance business efficiency.

SailPoint's Harbor Pilot will become available from 31 March 2025 as part of the SailPoint Identity Security Cloud. The Agentic Identity Security capabilities are anticipated to be released later this year, reflecting SailPoint's commitment to providing comprehensive identity security solutions in a rapidly changing digital environment.
