RecordPoint launches free tool to tackle shadow AI at work

Wed, 1st Oct 2025

RecordPoint has introduced RexCommand, a free tool designed to assist organisations in safely managing AI deployment while maintaining effective governance and compliance.

RexCommand is positioned as a response to the increasing use of AI tools in the workplace, often implemented without robust company policies or enforcement mechanisms. A recent survey by Anagram indicates that 78 percent of employees are already utilising AI tools at work, with 45 percent admitting to using tools that are expressly banned by their employers. This phenomenon, referred to as "shadow AI," is cited as a significant source of data security and compliance risk.

While recent reporting by the labour law firm Littler found that 44 percent of organisations have policies in place for AI governance, many struggle to translate these policies into effective enforcement. This gap can leave businesses exposed to regulatory and reputational harm, especially as audit and compliance demands grow with the expansion of AI use across industries.

RecordPoint's RexCommand aims to address these issues by providing a centralised platform where organisations can create and enforce AI policies in real time. The tool enables users to take an inventory of existing AI systems, identify unauthorised or "shadow" AI, and apply necessary governance controls across their digital ecosystem. It is available at no cost, with the stated aim of enabling organisations to harness the potential of AI without incurring additional risk.

Policy and enforcement

RexCommand gives organizations the tools to close the gap between policy and practice, ensuring AI is deployed responsibly, securely, and in compliance with global regulations - without slowing down innovation," said RecordPoint Co-Founder and CEO Anthony Woodward. "Policies don't protect organizations; enforcement does. RexCommand helps organizations of all sizes - from enterprises to start-ups - create and turn AI policy into AI practice.

This approach is intended to help businesses progress along their AI maturity journey, providing a clearer and safer path to AI adoption even in the absence of extensive internal expertise or infrastructure. Organisations are expected to benefit from improved clarity, control, and governance throughout the entire AI lifecycle.

Visibility and compliance

With AI adoption accelerating rapidly and employees increasingly turning to unauthorized AI tools or 'shadow AI', organizations face mounting compliance and audit pressures across all departments. RexCommand by RecordPoint is one of the few agent-based platforms that provides comprehensive visibility and end-to-end AI governance, establishing a centralized compliance framework that protects enterprises across every industry," said Philip Harris, Director of Governance, Risk and Compliance Services and Software at IDC Research, Inc.

This centralised framework is designed to give risk and compliance teams full oversight of AI activities, supporting efforts to mitigate legal and regulatory risks associated with unapproved technology use.

Role within AI suite

The RexCommand tool forms part of the broader RecordPoint AI Governance Suite, which is available as a premium offering. The suite is a unified platform that allows organisations to register and control AI systems, govern supporting data pipelines, enforce internal and external policies, and manage access and interaction with AI-ready data. The infrastructure provided by the suite is intended to be scalable and defensible, supporting organisations in establishing robust oversight and compliance processes for AI in production environments.

RecordPoint states that its aim with RexCommand is to lower the barriers to entry for effective AI governance, providing a free starting point for organisations of any scale to address growing regulatory and security issues surrounding AI deployment.
