Proofpoint unveils unified platforms to combat data & cyber risks

Today

Proofpoint has introduced two new cybersecurity solutions aimed at unifying threat protection and data security across multiple digital channels and organisational environments.

The first of these offerings, Proofpoint Prime Threat Protection, is described by the company as a unified, human-centric threat protection platform delivering multichannel, multistage defence across email, cloud applications, and collaboration tools. The second solution, a Unified Data Security Solution, brings together data loss protection, data security posture management, and insider threat management in a single platform.

According to data from Proofpoint, 68% of organisations in Singapore have experienced data losses resulting from careless employees, while 69% of employees knowingly put their organisations at risk. The new solutions are intended to address these challenges by targeting human error as a root cause of cybersecurity incidents.

Proofpoint outlined that enterprises are increasingly challenged by data fragmentation, data sprawl, and threats specifically targeting employees. The company has designed its new solutions to meet these enterprise security challenges while aiming to reduce cyber risk and operational costs through more streamlined security operations as threat complexity and regulatory scrutiny continue to grow.

The launch of Proofpoint Prime Threat Protection brings together several previously separated threat defence elements, integrating protection against multistage attacks, impersonation, and providing risk-based employee guidance and education within a single platform. This solution is intended to reduce complexity for security teams, extend the scope of protection across different digital channels, and decrease operational overheads, including costs associated with stitching together multiple disconnected tools.

Proofpoint noted that the current landscape, with its array of fragmented and reactive cybersecurity tools, often leaves organisations vulnerable due to siloed workflows and increasing threats, especially as 90% of breaches involve the human element. Threat actors are said to exploit individuals through various channels—including email, messaging, web browsers, file sharing, and collaboration tools—employing social engineering, malicious links, impersonation, and compromised accounts to bypass traditional defences.

Organisations are reported to use an average of 45 or more distinct cybersecurity tools, often with separate workflows and integrations. This reliance on standalone or point solutions is said to result in minimal behavioural change and operational inefficiencies, with critical tasks such as incident triage and user remediation delayed by system complexity and staffing shortages.

Darren Lee, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Threat Protection Group at Proofpoint, said: "The most damaging attacks continue to target people, and security teams are overwhelmed by siloed software, scattered threat signals, and rising costs. Today's collaboration landscape demands an adaptive approach. With Proofpoint Prime, organizations no longer need to stitch together dozens of disconnected detection and response tools and employee education. It integrates protection across multiple channels and attack stages, providing organizations a level of protection and peace of mind that is unmatched in the industry."

The Prime Threat Protection platform encompasses four central features: Multichannel Defence with Nexus AI, Multistage Attack Protection, Human Risk-Based Guidance and Insights, and Comprehensive Impersonation Protection. These collectively aim to provide consistent threat detection, real-time remediation, employee guidance, and protection against domain spoofing and malicious impersonation.

Proofpoint further stated that the architecture is designed for compatibility with agentic AI, enabling future automation of tasks such as threat investigation and forensic analysis within collaboration tools. Ongoing feature enhancements are planned.

The company also introduced its Unified Data Security Solution, positioned as an end-to-end platform combining data loss prevention, data security posture management, and insider threat management. This solution focuses on locating sensitive data, classifying it, controlling access, and monitoring usage across various channels including endpoints, email, web, and cloud platforms. The offering leverages AI models, behavioural analytics, and human risk intelligence built on Proofpoint Nexus, along with new AI agents for automated data classification and adaptive controls.

The company referenced findings from its own 2024 Data Loss Landscape Report, which indicated that 85% of organisations experienced a data loss incident in the past year, with over a quarter unaware of where their sensitive data resided.

Mayank Choudhary, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Data Security Group at Proofpoint, said: "Securing data is fundamentally a human problem, amplified by growing data sprawl and increasing complexity. With today's announcement, we are redefining how organizations approach data security. Our unified platform converges DLP, DSPM, and insider threat management to eliminate the patchwork of point solutions that fail to meet the demands of today's AI-first, data-centric world. It is adaptive, intelligent, and prepared for an agentic AI future."

Core features of the unified data security platform include a unified policy engine for consistent enforcement of data security policies across environments, and a scalable data activity graph – Nexus data lineage – providing end-to-end visibility into data flows. Additional agent-driven capabilities include real-time AI-powered data classification, adaptive controls, and automation for privileged access management.

Industry client Snowflake, represented by Sandeep Chandana, Senior Director, Machine Learning, commented on the value of Proofpoint's solution: "Proofpoint's DSPM platform gives our teams the visibility and intelligence we need to manage and gain a deeper understanding of our data security posture. Its data classification and risk insights enable us to enforce least privilege access and strengthen governance across our environment to help customers ensure their data is easy, connected, and trusted."

Proofpoint confirmed the new Proofpoint Prime Threat Protection is now available globally, with additional features and the Unified Data Security capabilities expected to become available by the end of August 2025.
