Keeper adds instant account switching & passkey upgrades

Thu, 22nd Jan 2026

Keeper has added instant account switching and passkey updates across its mobile apps and browser extension, positioning the release around users who manage more than one vault on the same device.

The company said the changes apply to Keeper for iOS, Keeper for Android and the Keeper Browser Extension across major browsers. It also said it plans to add account switching to the Keeper Desktop Vault.

Account switching

Keeper said users can now toggle between multiple Keeper accounts on the same smartphone or within a web browser without logging out. The company framed the feature around use cases where individuals keep separate accounts for personal, family and business activity.

The company said users can switch accounts from the login screen or from an account menu. It said switching takes place instantly when a session remains active on the backend. Keeper said it will prompt users to authenticate when a session is no longer active, when the feature is disabled, or when organisational policies require verification.

Keeper also highlighted controls that remain in place when users change accounts. It listed role-based access controls, device verification, multi-factor authentication and audit logging.

Keeper described its approach as aligned with zero-trust and zero-knowledge security models. It said users can move between accounts while maintaining security boundaries, policies and controls.

Remote and hybrid work has increased the number of contexts in which employees and contractors access corporate systems. Many organisations also allow staff to use personal devices for work, often described as bring your own device arrangements.

In a statement, Keeper connected the update to daily access across devices and environments.

"Security and usability must work together, especially as users operate across devices and environments," said Craig Lurey, CTO and Co-founder, Keeper Security. "With seamless account switching now available across mobile apps and browser extensions, Keeper is simplifying day-to-day access while maintaining the policy enforcement and protections organizations rely on."

Autofill changes

Keeper also announced updates aimed at performance and usability in its credential and vault experience. It said embedded autofill cloud sync makes newly created or updated records available more quickly. Keeper also said it improved search behaviour. It said search now surfaces recently accessed items for faster retrieval.

The company positioned the changes as part of a broader effort to reduce friction for users who access credentials frequently across devices. Keeper did not disclose benchmarks, latency figures, or any measured impact on autofill speed in the announcement.

Passkey updates

Keeper also set out changes tied to passkeys and passwordless sign-in. It said it now supports conditional passkey creation. The company said this feature allows supported logins to be upgraded to passkeys automatically in the background. It said users receive a notification after completion.

Passkeys have gained momentum across consumer and workplace identity systems. They typically rely on cryptographic credentials stored on a device and protected by device authentication such as biometrics or a PIN. Vendors have promoted passkeys as a way to reduce reliance on passwords, particularly in environments where credential theft and phishing attempts remain common.

Keeper said it continues to focus on passkey adoption as part of its product direction. It did not specify which services and identity systems qualify as "supported logins" for automatic upgrades in the background, or whether users can set policy controls at an organisation level for conditional passkey creation.

Product scope

Keeper described itself as a provider of privileged access management software and a password and passkey management platform. It said its products cover passwords and passkeys, infrastructure secrets, remote connections and endpoints.

The company also linked account switching to enterprise policy enforcement across multiple contexts. It said those controls remain enforced across switching flows.

Keeper said account switching and the related updates are available now on iOS, Android and the browser extension. It said account switching support for the Keeper Desktop Vault is coming soon.
