Ixia enhances active network monitoring platform with machine learning

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Keysight Technologies' business Ixia has incorporated machine learning technologies into its network monitoring platform.

The new technologies will help the platform, called Hawkeye, to help enterprises reduce network outage times and improve network uptime by detecting, identifying, and resolving network anomalies.

The company cites statistics from Gartner, which predicts that more than 50% of new enterprise applications will incorporate machine learning or other intelligence models.

Ixia also notes that as the volume and velocity of raw network and application data continues to increase, network operations teams are faced with a flood of alerts. These teams need to reduce alert fatigue and increase their ability to troubleshoot network and application issues.

Machine learning is key to gaining insights from vast amounts of data, Keysight and Ixia state.

Hawkeye features automatic threshold and outlier detection which combines machine learning-based problem detection with customisable sensitivity criteria. It cuts through clutter and immediately notifies network operations teams of potential problems.

An outlier dashboard enables these teams to easily see potential problems in one place offering built-in, drill down visualisations that assist with root cause analysis and resolution.

"Keysight's Hawkeye utilises the power of machine learning to help network operations teams make sense of their increasingly complex networks," says Keysight Network Applications and Security Group vice president and general manager of visibility, Recep Ozdag.

"Network operations teams struggle to correlate raw performance metrics with actual network problems. Hawkeye's new machine learning capabilities offer insight into meaningful variations enabling these teams to quickly be alerted to real outages, congestion and application performance issues.

Last year Ixia and software company Synopsys announced a multi-year partnership to create a new paradigm for or system validation of complex networking system-on-chips (SoCs) using emulation and a virtual tester.

The new paradigm aims to deliver a faster, more effective alternative to traditional in-circuit emulation, which no longer scales for the port density and software complexity of next-generation networking SoCs, with the use of an emulation system connected to a true virtual tester solution.

"Our goal is to support networking equipment and semiconductor customers through their product design and validation cycle as early as possible," says Keysight's Scott Westlake.

"We are pleased to work with Synopsys, an emulation partner committed to developing deep, feature-rich integration with our virtual testing technology that helps achieve that goal and faster time-to-market for advanced networking products."
