Indosat rolls out AI solution to combat rising digital scams

Mon, 11th Aug 2025

Indosat has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam solution aimed at protecting its customers in Indonesia from the increasing threat of digital fraud.

Technology rollout

The company's latest feature leverages AI to automatically detect and stop suspicious digital communications, including calls and messages, in real-time. The system is capable of filtering out potential threats and issuing alerts to customers about possible scams. It operates on the AIvolusi5G foundation, which integrates AI technology with Indosat's 5G network infrastructure. The solution is built in partnership with Tanla, the AI technology platform partner, and is based on Indosat's in-house AI ecosystem, making use of NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs.

On-network processing ensures the anti-scam and anti-spam protections function without the need for customers to have advanced devices or premium connections. This approach means that protections are extendable to users across diverse locations in Indonesia, addressing concerns around accessibility and digital equity.

Rising digital threats

The implementation of this solution comes in response to findings from the Asia Scam Report 2024 by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), which states that 65% of Indonesians receive scam attempts weekly. Forms of digital fraud outlined in the report include phishing text messages, fraudulent investment schemes, and fake job offers. This situation underscores the call for comprehensive consumer protection in Indonesia's rapidly digitalising society.

Collaboration and commitment

"At Indosat, we believe digital protection is a fundamental right for every Indonesian. Our partnership with Tanla to deploy the AI‐powered anti‐spam and anti‐scam solution shows how technology can safeguard daily digital lives. Built on Indosat's sovereign AI factory with state‐of‐the‐art NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, this solution strengthens Indonesia's capability to fight spam and scam in real time, reinforcing the nation's digital resilience and public trust," said Vikram Sinha, President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison.

The Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam solution is the product of a collaboration that also includes global organisations such as Mastercard, GASA, and GSMA. Indosat's approach is grounded in the principle of "gotong royong", or communal cooperation, uniting industry partners to tackle spam and scam threats in Indonesia. Operator-led efforts, such as this one, are positioned as transformative steps towards improving fraud prevention and securing digital access both in Indonesia and throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Government support

"The government welcomes the collaborative efforts initiated by Indosat as part of a collective effort to create a safe digital space. AI should bring technology closer and open more opportunities for society to grow. Indonesia does not want to only be a consumer of technology, but also a key player in shaping AI usage that meets the real needs of society," said Nezar Patria, Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

The government's endorsement highlights ambitions not just to import technology, but to play a leading role in developing solutions that address the specific challenges faced by Indonesians online.

AI for all

This launch is part of Indosat's broader transformation towards becoming an AI-TechCo, and it falls under the company's "AI for All" campaign. Indosat has stated its commitment to ensuring that AI-driven technologies are accessible and beneficial to all segments of Indonesian society, regardless of geographic or socio-economic boundaries. The company continues to emphasise inclusivity and digital empowerment as central elements of its operating ethos.
