IM3 launches SATSPAM to protect Indonesians from digital scams
IM3 has introduced SATSPAM, an anti-scam and anti-spam service that is fully integrated into its mobile network and activates automatically when customers use any data package.
SATSPAM is designed to address the rising issue of digital fraud and unwanted messaging in Indonesia, where, according to recent data, 65% of Indonesians encounter fraud attempts on a weekly basis, including phishing texts, misleading job offers, and bogus investment opportunities. The system leverages AI and 5G technology to operate in real time, identifying, filtering, and notifying users about suspicious SMS messages or calls without requiring any manual action or the installation of additional applications.
Network-based security
IM3's SATSPAM service is directly embedded within the network and responds automatically when any IM3 data package is in use. The tool serves two main user groups: the standard SATSPAM BASIC, enabled for all IM3 Prepaid users who have purchased data packages, and SATSPAM+, a more advanced tier available for prepaid users with packages of IDR Rp50,000 or higher and for Platinum Postpaid customers. The advanced protection level includes the classification of incoming calls as spam, scam, or trusted, and provides weekly threat reports and real-time detection of potentially harmful links sent via SMS.
Manual configuration is not needed, and users can report additional suspicious numbers directly via the myIM3 application, supporting a collaborative approach to combating digital fraud.
Public campaign and support
The introduction of SATSPAM was also accompanied by a public education initiative, symbolised by a parade on Jakarta's Thamrin Car Free Day. This event highlighted the #NomorModusNoMore movement, aimed at raising public awareness about digital fraud and spam risks. Hundreds of IM3 employees and members of the public attended, joined by prominent public figures, including journalist Najwa Shihab.
Bilal Kazmi, Director & Chief Commercial Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, stated, "Through SATSPAM, IM3 takes a proactive step in ensuring safer digital experiences from the threat of spam and scam for Indonesians, as part of AIvolusi5G technology, a secure, intelligent network built with cutting-edge AI and responsive 5G technology from Indosat that is responsive, adaptive, and relevant. We believe that the right to feel safe in digital spaces belongs to everyone, and technology must serve as protection, not just connectivity."
"SATSPAM is not merely a feature. It's a tangible commitment to earning and maintaining public trust in an increasingly complex digital world, proving that the future of the digital world must start from an equitable sense of security for all. In line with the spirit of Indonesia's Independence Day, SATSPAM represents freedom from digital scam threats, unlocking greater opportunities for people and encouraging the appropriate use of technology."
The company's statement points to a holistic approach to digital safety, linking the initiative with broader goals of community empowerment and the promotion of safe technology usage in Indonesia.
Narratives from public figures emphasised the scale and seriousness of the digital fraud problem. Najwa Shihab, a senior journalist, commented on the extent of financial loss and prevalence of digital scams in Indonesia. She said, "Digital scams are not just annoying, they are modern crimes that exploit trust and public vulnerability. As of today, 64% of spam victims in Indonesia have been targeted via calls or text messages, and from November 2024 to January 2025 alone, digital fraud caused a total financial loss of Rp476 billion. These figures show that most people still lack proper protection. I fully support IM3's launch of SATSPAM, not just as a new feature, but as a concrete form of social responsibility. Digital protection must be inclusive and accessible, so that safety becomes a right for everyone and a real step toward building digital literacy in Indonesia."
Access and coverage
SATSPAM BASIC is available to all IM3 Prepaid users with an active data package, beginning at IDR Rp35,000 for a 3GB starter pack. SATSPAM+ is offered for higher-tier prepaid and Platinum Postpaid users, and requires an active data package of IDR Rp50,000 or more, or permission to access features via the myIM3 app.
Through these integrations, IM3 expects to raise public consciousness about digital threats and help establish new benchmarks for telecommunications security in Indonesia by combining the technical capabilities of AI and 5G with public education and participation.
