Hexnode embeds upgraded Genie AI to run UEM actions
Hexnode has upgraded its Genie AI assistant and embedded it in its unified endpoint management (UEM) console, adding conversational access to device inventory, direct command execution, and automated troubleshooting.
Genie AI previously focused on scripting and real-time support. The latest release positions it as an operational interface inside Hexnode UEM, allowing IT administrators to use natural-language prompts in the console to trigger actions on managed devices.
The update reflects a broader shift in IT operations toward agent-style tools that combine chat interfaces with the ability to carry out tasks. In endpoint management, the goal is to cut time spent navigating dashboards and building reports when teams need to identify devices and act quickly.
Inventory Queries
Genie AI now connects to live device inventory inside the UEM console. Admins can ask plain-language questions and get device-level information without configuring filters and reports.
Hexnode's examples include identifying devices in a specific office that have not updated their operating system within a defined period, or listing laptops with low battery charge. The assistant pulls results from the managed device repository and displays them in the interface.
Hexnode is positioning the feature as a way to speed up troubleshooting and compliance checks, while giving less experienced staff access to device insights without learning complex navigation across management screens.
Actions in Chat
Another change is direct command execution through the chat interface. Genie AI can initiate device-management actions in the conversation, rather than requiring administrators to switch to separate workflows.
Endpoint management tools often split reporting, policy configuration, and device actions across different screens. Hexnode says the new conversational layer reduces switching between those areas during day-to-day operations.
For organisations managing large device fleets, the promise is less time between identifying an issue and taking action. It also increases reliance on the access controls and approval processes already in the UEM console, since actions can be triggered from the chat window.
Error Remediation
The upgrade also adds what Hexnode calls intelligent error remediation. When a management action fails, Genie AI can surface a likely cause and suggest remediation steps.
Hexnode cited a scenario in which a security policy fails to deploy to a remote workstation. In that case, the assistant can analyse error logs, identify a conflicting setting, and propose a fix. Administrators can then apply the recommended steps from the same interface.
Similar capabilities are becoming more common across IT operations tools, as vendors add AI-driven log summarisation and guided resolution steps. The operational value depends on the quality of the underlying telemetry, the accuracy of the analysis, and how much control the system has over production devices.
Scripting Terminal
Genie AI also includes a scripting terminal for Windows, Linux, and macOS, allowing administrators to run custom commands across platforms from within the assistant.
Hexnode says the assistant can refine scripts and check syntax for cross-platform compatibility. It argues this reduces the risk of errors when running commands on production endpoints while making scripting workflows accessible to a wider range of IT staff.
Generating and adjusting scripts through a conversational interface has become a common theme as IT teams explore how generative AI can sit alongside established administrative tools. In endpoint management, scripting remains a key mechanism for automating configuration changes, gathering diagnostics, and applying fixes.
Product Direction
Hexnode frames the upgrade as a shift from an assistant that provides answers to one that can take actions within core workflows. That distinction has become an important talking point for vendors seeking to differentiate chatbots from agent-style automation in enterprise software.
"Genie's expansion is a key step in transforming UEM from a management tool into an intelligent operational partner. By extending its capabilities across wider IT functions, we're enabling more intuitive, responsive interactions that simplify complexity and elevate endpoint operations," said Apu Pavithran, CEO and Founder of Hexnode.
Hexnode also said it plans to extend Genie AI into its XDR product for threat detection and security operations.
