Cohesity appoints Greg Statton as APJ CTO to drive AI growth

Wed, 17th Sep 2025

Cohesity has announced the appointment of Greg Statton as Chief Technology Officer for the Asia Pacific and Japan region.

In this newly established role, Statton will oversee regional technology strategy and innovation, supporting Cohesity's stated mission to deliver next-generation data protection solutions across Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) following its integration with Veritas' enterprise data protection business.

Statton's responsibilities will include leading both regional strategy and the ongoing global development of Cohesity's AI solution, Gaia. He will continue to report directly to Sunil Moolchandani, Chief Strategy Officer at Cohesity.

Regional growth focus

The appointment is positioned as part of Cohesity's wider investment in APJ and, according to the company, a recognition of the importance of the Japanese market as a strategic growth priority for the coming financial year. The creation of the Field CTO role aims to address specific customer requirements in the region through targeted research and development and product innovation, while supporting deeper engagement with enterprise and government customers.

"Greg brings a rare combination of technical depth, regional insight, and strategic vision that will be critical as we scale our presence across Asia Pacific and Japan," said Sunil Moolchandani, Chief Strategy Officer, Cohesity. "As we continue to invest in the region - especially in key markets like Japan - Greg's leadership will play a pivotal role in helping customers adopt our AI-powered data security solutions and strengthen their cyber resilience."

Statton's career at Cohesity has spanned over a decade, including time spent in various sales engineering leadership and technical innovation positions such as Vice President of AI Solutions and Senior Director Data & AI within the office of the CTO. Before joining Cohesity, his background included roles at Citrix, Nutanix, and work as a Google product development specialist. His career focus has been on advancing cloud, security, and AI technologies across different industries.

Customer focus

The company said Statton's role would help answer region-specific customer requirements through R&D and innovation, as well as enabling deeper interaction with both enterprise and government sectors.

"In today's fast-changing data protection environment, organisations across Asia Pacific and Japan need technology partners who understand their unique challenges and can deliver tailored, innovative solutions," said Greg Statton, CTO, Asia Pacific and Japan, Cohesity. "I am excited to directly support the Cohesity APJ team at such a pivotal time and look forward to driving the next wave of growth and innovation in the region - particularly in Japan - alongside our talented teams and partners."

Cohesity states that it recognises the increasing demand among customers in APJ for efficiency improvements and enhanced business resilience enabled by integrated AI and data security solutions. The creation of the new role is intended to incorporate region-specific requirements into product development and future roadmaps.

Statton's appointment coincides with Cohesity's expansion following its merger with the enterprise data protection business of Veritas. The company states that its solutions are positioned to secure and protect data across on-premises, cloud, and edge environments. Cohesity serves a range of enterprise customers globally, including a substantial proportion of Global 500 organisations.
