Encryption firm Echoworx moves into 'underserved' Asia Pacific region

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Encryption provider Echoworx is moving into what it calls the ‘underserved' Asia Pacific market – a move that will bring another secure communication platform to the region.

Echoworx runs the OneWorld secure communication platform. The company has data centers across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and will open another in Australia this year.

According to Echoworx president and CEO Michael Ginsberg, APAC is an underserved market when it comes to encryption and thwarting cuber attacks.

The company cites a Marsh - McLennan Companies study that found Asia Pacific has ‘the worst cybersecurity in the world'.

The study says that most breaches are never made public and the time to detect a breach is 520 days; far longer than the global average of 146 days.

According to Echoworx, there is an urgent need for data security solutions in Asia Pacific. The company plans to launch an Australian data center by mid-May, with Indonesia or Japan next on its agenda.

Ginsberg also says Echoworx is one of the few encryption providers in the Latin America market.

"We have a first-mover advantage there and would like to parlay that stance in APAC, starting in Australia,” he continues.

Echoworx also acknowledges that clients in various parts of the world may want their data stored in their jurisdiction, and not in another country or region.

"Different areas have different maturities and different concerns, such as where is their data being housed. Jurisdictional awareness is a big security purchasing decision when it comes to countries' data,” Ginsberg says.

Echoworx says customers using its solutions are able to communicate with their partners and own customers quickly and securely.

“With the advent of cloud management, we have the capability to be up in a jurisdiction in a very short time and in an economical fashion," says Ginsberg.

"By utilizing cloud services, we are no longer restricted by physical resources or IT intensive infrastructure maintenance, enabling us to be 100 per cent focused on how we can help our customers communicate better with the outside world in a secure fashion."

Echoworx believes that many areas around the world need to step up their information security as they realize the importance of protecting their data.

"For our company, these types of opportunities will allow us to be truly global," Ginsberg concludes.

Echoworx was formed in 2000. The company is based in North America and has offices throughout the United Kingdom.
